Surds & Exact Values
Surds are irrational square roots left in root form (e.g. \(\sqrt{2}\)) to keep answers exact.
Simplify surds using perfect square factors. Rationalise denominators by removing surds from the bottom.
Example
Example: \(\sqrt{12} = \sqrt{4 \times 3} = 2\sqrt{3}\)
Example: \(\dfrac{1}{\sqrt{2}} = \dfrac{\sqrt{2}}{2}\) (rationalised denominator)

Simplify \(\sqrt{50}\).
